Not-your-Father's Day drinks

Just because dad's neat, doesn't mean his drinks always have to be. Mix it up this Father's Day with these Pop-inspired pops.

  • Basil Hayden's Fool's Gold

A drink dad will treasure more than any argyle tie. You'll need 2 parts Basil Hayden’s Bourbon Whiskey, 3/4 part fresh lemon juice, ½ part limoncello, ½ part simple syrup, lemon wheel and fresh sage for garnish. Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a rocks glass. Garnish with a lemon wheel and fresh sage.
  • Maker's Mark Bourbon Spritz

A new take on an old fashioned. You'll need 1 ½ parts Maker’s Mark Bourbon Whisky, 1 part Aperol, ¾ parts freshly squeezed lemon juice, a splash of simple syrup, Prosecco, and an orange peel for garnish. Fill a wine glass with ice and layer in Maker’s Mark Bourbon Whisky, Aperol® and syrup. Top with prosecco and garnish with an orange peel.
  • Cerveza Preparada

Cerveza preparada is a Mexican drink of beer mixed with tomato juice, hot sauce, or salsa. A distinctly tangy and refreshing drink, it can be a bit of an acquired taste. Like that joke dad tells every Thanksgiving.
  • Hennessy Guava Cocktail

Guava adds an unexpected twist Dad is sure to love. You'll need 1.5 Hennessy V.S, 2-3 Strawberry slices  1 Lime wedge  2 oz Guava Juice Muddle strawberries and lime wedge together. Add with Hennessy Very Special and ice to a cocktail shaker and shake. Strain into a Rocks glass. Garnish with a strawberry slice.

In French, Vieux Carré means “old square.” (Maybe leave that fact out when you make it for Dad). But if he likes a Manhattan, he’ll love the dry, woody, bitter flavors in this drink a Vieux Carré.  You'll need 1 oz Hennessy V.S.O.P Privilège, 1 oz sweet vermouth, 1 oz bourbon whisky, 1 Angostura bitter dash, 1 Peychaud bitter dash, 0.25 Bénédictine and 1 orange zest. Fill a mixing glass 2/3rds full with ice cubes. Pour in the ingredients and stir for 8 seconds. Strain and pour into a glass. Garnish with orange zest.
  • Rusty Nail

There are two types of kids: the kind that buys dad a toolbox, and the kind that makes dad a Rusty Nail. We’ll let you decide which is the favorite. (Hint: There's scotch in the Rusty Nail.)
  • Vesper

For the dad who thinks he's James Bond. Making its debut in Casino Royale, this drink melds a clean, refreshing taste with a subtle, sweet kick. A word to the wise, this is a large drink, so you may want to share this mission with a friend. Aka Dad.
