About Espolòn Tequila

A celebration of the storied culture of Mexico

Espolòn Tequila was established in 1998 by Master Distiller Maestro Cirilo Oropeza and is produced at Destiladora San Nicolas (NOM 1440) in Los Altos de Jalisco. Paying tribute to Mexican culture, Espolòn Tequila’s striking labels are inspired by 19th century artistry and celebrate the storied culture of Mexico. Espolòn Tequila is named for the spur of the iconic rooster, a historic symbol of strength, nobility and national pride.

A tequila for every taste

All Espolòn Tequilas use only hand-harvested, 100% Blue Weber agave and are produced in Los Altos de Jalisco, Mexico. It is double distilled in pot and column stills, then fermented in rooms playing Classical music, which Maestro Cirilo Oropeza believes creates optimal conditions for fermentation. 

Unaged, Espolòn Blanco is the purest expression of Espolòn Tequila. Slow-cooked in stainless steel autoclaves, this delicate extraction preserves the agave character. The liquid is fermented for approximately three to four days to balance flavor.

Starting as a Blanco, Espolòn Reposado is aged in American oak barrels, with #2 char, for a minimum two months, allowing it to develop a more complex, well-rounded taste unique to Espolòn. 

Espolòn Añejo is aged in American white oak barrels for at least 12 months, then finished in heavily charred Wild Turkey Bourbon barrels for two more months, taking on the rich, complex flavors of a whiskey.

A storied spirit 

Located among the highlands of Jalisco, Destiladora San Nicolas (NOM 1440) is the birthplace of Espolòn Tequila. Named after the spur of the iconic rooster and packaged in art inspired by the legendary José Guadalupe Posada, Espolòn is not only a tribute to Mexico’s storied culture, but a dream come true for Master Distiller Cirilo Oropeza.     Espolòn’s take on Mexico’s classic cocktail packs a punch of fresh lime with the bubbly finish of grapefruit soda. It’s easy to mix. And even more enjoyable to sip. 

    INGREDIENTS:
    2 PARTS ESPOLÒN® BLANCO
    PINCH OF SALT
    SQUEEZE OF LIME
    TOP WITH GRAPEFRUIT SODA

    INSTRUCTIONS:
    1. Combine in a highball glass, on the rocks and top with grapefruit soda.
    2. Garnish with lime wheel.

  • REPOSADO MEXICAN MULE

    When you add the complex flavor of Espolòn’s Reposado to a Mexican Mule, you’ll get a cocktail you’ll want to make again and again. 

    INGREDIENTS:
    1 1/2 PART ESPOLÒN® REPOSADO 
    1/2 PART FRESH LIME JUICE
    TOP WITH GINGER BEER

    INSTRUCTIONS:
    1. Combine ingredients in a mule cup on the rocks and top with ginger beer. 
    2. Garnish with a lime wedge.

  • Spicy Margarita 

    Espolòn’s spicy margarita takes taste to a new level with the spice of Ancho Reyes Chile Liqueur. It’s a kick that’s sure to amplify your at-home mixing experience.

    INGREDIENTS:
    1 PART ESPOLÒN® BLANCO
    1 PART ANCHO REYES® VERDE
    1 PART LIME
    1/2 PART AGAVE NECTAR (OR SIMPLE SYRUP)

    INSTRUCTIONS:
    1. Add ingredients to a cocktail shaker filled with plenty of ice and shake.
    2. Salt rim of a rocks glass, if desired.
    3. Double strain into glass and garnish with a lime wheel.
