This Rosso di Montalcino has been created after several years of experimentation with the vines aimed at obtaining high level wines. A 100% Sangiovese, it now joins, with the 2012 vintage, the other two wines in the estate line, Brunello Pian delle Vigne and the Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vignaferrovia. The Pian delle Vigne estate is located to the north of the Orcia river valley, three and a half miles to the south of the town of Montalcino, and takes its name from a typical 19th century railroad station located within the confines of the property. The estate’s overall extension is approximately 470 acres (184 hectares), 165 of which (65 hectares) are planted to vines. The exposure of the vineyards is prevalently southeast and the altitude between 400 and 650 feet (130-200 meters) above sea level.
