Get the door, it's the liquor store
West is best. At least, that’s the opinion of most people after spending a few wide-eyed days under the expansive... blue skies of Lubbock, Texas. Let’s just get this out there for anyone who’s ever looked at the city on a map — Lubbock seems, shall we say, unlikely. A city of over a quarter-million people that’s so remote it needed its own mini-interstate? Lubbock is the bridge to the western desert. At 3,200 feet above sea level, it’s got a semiarid climate that’s surprisingly cool if you’ve ever spent a summer day in Anywhere, Texas. It gets its water from the bounty of the Ogallala Aquifer and uses it to irrigate crops, people and a surprisingly bustling arts and culture scene that’s spread throughout the city. Many prominent musical acts hail from Lubbock, including Buddy Holly, Natalie Maines, Terry Allen and others. Must be something in the water. If not the water, then perhaps the alcohol. Drizly reps the local scene by providing on-demand delivery of the finest beers, wines and liquors in under an hour. That’s some West Texas hospitality for you.
