Get the door, it's the liquor store
The studious, well-to-do little town of Great Neck is situated just 20 miles east of Manhattan, but it’s got all... the peace and quiet a town could ask for. Its shoreline gives it access to the Manhasset Bay and the rest of the Long Island Sound, making this a perfect settlement for anyone who loves the ocean, small-town life, big-city life and/or some of the best seafood in America — which is pretty much 80% of America. Luckily, 80% of America doesn’t live here. It’s home instead to a cozy population of under 10,000 who live in a postcard image of happy suburban tranquility. Great Neck was once the Shangri La of the inimitable Anne Hutchinson (a.k.a. the Puritan Powerhouse, a.k.a. the Howling Heretic), who found the present-day peninsula where Great Neck is located quite appealing. However, she could not get the needed land grant from the king, which likely provoked her famous temper. The place was given the name Madnan’s Neck, after “Mad Nan,” Hutchinson’s nickname. Today it’s a far cry from whatever Hutchinson might have envisioned — it’s a peaceful, quiet, safe little town that’s got everything it needs. If you’re in the area, you’ve also got access to on-demand alcohol delivery from Drizly. That means your favorite beers, wines and liquors will literally show up at your door within an hour of you ordering them.
