Get the door, it's the liquor store
While the name might give the impression of roughin’ it in the woods, in fact, Homestead is a perfectly agreeable... and well-settled place about 35 miles southwest of Miami. The second-oldest city in the county, this little city of ~60,000 actually gets its name from the origins of the railroad. The Florida East Coast Railway extension was laying tracks through an area that had been opened up for homesteading. Being at the end of the line, this area was named “Homestead Country.” The engineers mapping the area shortened it to Homestead to save on ink, and thus was born the Floridian community beloved by many today. Homestead has a lot of name-dropping cred. A short drive and boat ride east lands you in the fabulous Biscayne National Park — yee-haw. It’s got the Homestead-Miami Speedway, a motor racetrack that’s home to some serious adrenaline as well as NASCAR, the IndyCar Series and the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Yee-haw! Just south of Homestead is the Everglades Alligator Farm as well as the Everglades themselves, stretching off into oblivion with 7,800 mi² of inky waters, slithering serpents, cranky crocs and fantastic fan-boating. Yee, and please let us finish, haw. Homestead is also Drizly country. On-demand beers, wines and liquors of the finest caliber await you, and all you have to do is order them online. They’ll arrive in under an hour, too.
