Get the door, it's the liquor store
There are many things to say about Apopka, and very few of them are what you might call “normal.” This... city in Orange County, Florida, is home to 41,542 people. That’s not the weird part — the weird part is that the population nearly doubled between 2000 and 2010. The city’s municipal map looks like a giant sponge, with random jurisdictional holes everywhere. The name Apopka means “potato eating place” in Seminole. Its global title is the “Indoor Foliage Capital of the World.” What is indoor foliage, you might ask? It’s a fancy term for greenhouse plants. Apopka’s mayor, John H. Land, served the town from 1949 until 2014 (a total of 61.25 years, not including a short intermission). That’s a lot to take in. There’s one more weird thing to discuss, though, and that’s the fact that people who live in Apopka can think of practically any alcoholic beverage and have it appear in their hands within 60 minutes, all without leaving the house. Don’t worry, there’s no sorcery here. That’s Drizly. Visit our app or website and you’ll see what we’re talking about.
