Get the door, it's the liquor store
Manteca is a small city in the San Joaquin Valley of northern California. This super fertile region is best-known for... its extensive agricultural history and is even referred to as the “breadbasket” of the state. Manteca’s name has a story behind it, and who doesn’t love a little quirky history? The city’s title is actually a result of a typo; the Central Pacific Railroad goes right through town, and the railroad company accidentally misspelled that city’s chosen name of Monteca. Somehow, the error was never fixed. Such are the realities of the world before spellcheck. The word manteca is Spanish for “butter” or “lard” (a hotly debated translation among locals, to be sure), so it makes perfect sense that Manteca brings an extra special something to the breadbasket…pumpkins? California is one of the country's leading pumpkin growers, and most of them are grown right in Manteca. It’s only fitting that the city hosts an annual pumpkin festival in honor of its trophy crop. This fall, be sure to check out Drizly’s pumpkin ale selection to celebrate. For every season, Drizly provides a one-stop online shopping experience for all your beer, booze, and bubbly cravings.
