Product Description

A classically Argentine wine that thrives in Mendoza’s high altitudes, our Alamos Malbec blends the deeply concentrated plum flavors of the country’s signature variety–Malbec–with small portions of Syrah and Bonarda to add dark cherry and blackberry flavors. Well-integrated hints of brown spice and vanilla contribute layers of complexity. A full structure, firm tannins and a long finish create an expansive palate that is hard to forget. With crisp, clean air and intense sunlight, growing conditions in Mendoza are truly ideal for Malbec.

Drizly Expert Notes

The wines of the Catena family are consistently some of the best wines from Argentina, and Alamos' Malbec is no exception. Alamos, the family's introductory label, is an exceptional value. The success of these wines stems from their passion for honest, traditional wine. Instead of making a 100% Malbec, they do what winemakers in the Mendoza region have traditionally done and add a small amount of other grapes from the vineyard. Starting with a Malbec backbone, they blend in Syrah for complexity and a little Bonarda, an indigenous grape, for a rustic feel. By using intellgent, award-winning winemaking that honors the area's traditions, they create a wine that perfectly combines the cold, rugged nights and bright sun of Mendoza.

Alamos Malbec's rich, intense ruby color is striking. Smells of dark cherry, roasted plum and blackberry blend harmoniously with smoky notes, vanilla, baking spicing and hints of juniper. It's a full, grippy, sometimes silky and complex wine, you won't often find at its price. It's an obvious pick for grilled, braised or roasted meats, mushroom and sausage pizza or a night binge-watching Netflix. But avoid spicy foods, as the the heat will be intensified by the alcohol.

To enjoy, pour Alamos Malbec into a larger, taller glass, instead of something more rounded. Also, a slight chill is ideal. Anything over 72 degrees and the alcohol will dominate the other flavors. Air won't do any damage, so feel free to decant or pour into a glass well before serving.
