For some, Valentine's Day means a night out with your S.O. or a good reason to splurge on a pricey dinner. But it also means you have an excuse to have all your friends over to watch your favorite Romantic Comedies and have a glass (or two...or three) of wine. We tapped some of our Top Shelf Bloggers to pair their favorite Galentine's-worthy movies with the perfect bottle of vino to help you celebrate this year.
"My favorite Galentine's Day RomCom is How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and I would serve Miraval Rosé. I envision Andie drinking rosé throughout the movie but especially when she is sitting out side playing BullShit. That's one of my favorite scenes because the plot takes a turn and they both start falling in love. Miraval is a crispy light rosé and is the perfect drink for any Galentines Day party!"
"I love romantic comedies, and I love wine...and I love when the two happen to collide! What better time to do that then for Valentine’s Day!? Educated Guess pairs perfectly with "He’s Just Not That Into You" because the movie is a series of educated guesses made by all of the main characters! A few educated guesses lead the women to find their happiness in the end, and I love any rom-com that can make me laugh, and also pull at my heart strings! This movie and wine pairing is the perfect Valentine’s night no matter if you are hanging with your girlfriends or have a date with that special someone!"
"Growing up, Runaway Bride was one of my favorite romantic comedies (hello, Julia Roberts!) and I would watch it over and over again at sleepovers with my best friends. Flash forward almost 20 years later, and it's still one of my favorite movies to watch during a cozy night in at home. My favorite scene is when Maggie Carpenter realizes that she doesn't know how she likes her eggs cooked because she's always just said the same way all her fiancés liked before, so she tries every singe way to cook an egg before she settles on Benedict being her favorite. That's kind of how I've felt with my favorite wines over the years, and while I've sometimes gravitated to certain kinds in relationships in the past, Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc will always be my favorite, hands down. And it's the perfect price point for a move night at home too!"
"The Colosseum, the iconic scooter ride, a fun fight scene, and a little romance makes Roman Holiday a must watch this Galentine's Day. While enjoying the nostalgic charm of this classic RomCom, you should sip on a glass of this Charli Fondatore Lambrusco. This fermented red is just as bubbly as Princess Ann on the town and it's been around since the Roman Era, which makes is a fantastic pairing for Roman Holiday."
"How to Be Single is all about the ups and downs of the single life (something we all know pretty well). I love it because it's super funny and totally relatable, and mostly because the ultimate message is about enjoying your time as a single girl flying solo. I really can't think of a better wine to drink while watching this movie with your girlfriends because the name really says it all! Plus, the pink color makes it a little extra fun and festive - perfect for Galentine's day!"
"When I think about my favorite rom-com, 50 First Dates is at the top of my list. What's not to like about a comedy starring Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler, set in Hawaii, which just so happens to be one of my favorite places in the world? Since the bright, (mostly) lighthearted story line is set in such a stunning tropical location, a crisp and clean Sauvignon Blanc immediately comes to mind as the perfect wine pairing to complement. Starborough Sauvignon Blanc has been a favorite of mine for years now. It's a lovely, classic New Zealand white with tons of fresh citrus flavors and the faintest hint of grassiness - the perfect thing to sip on to transport you right to the tropical shores of Oahu."
"Pair this movie with Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label. It's a choice that is synonymous with reliability and elegance, it's perfect for snuggling up on the couch and sharing with the person who means the most. Celebrate an evening with a classic bubbly beverage while enjoying a wedding-themed classic RomCom."
"Just like the wine's description says, Kung Fu Girl Riesling IS "a party in a glass," and the same can be said about "To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar". I mean, it's Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes and John Leguizamo in drag - how can that NOT be a party?! Watching a small town of women become stronger thanks to a few outrageous drag queens will have you and your gals giggling like school girls all night long. Alongside the fruity and honeysuckle undertones of this wine, you ladies are going to find yourself doing the catwalk in no time. FAB-U-LOUS."
