Word is drinking beer may actually be good for you. Naturally we had to investigate. Apparently this is a real thing. We’ve done some digging and come up with seven pretty awesome reasons that you should be getting your daily dose of hops and barley.
#1) Drinking beer decreases your risk of heart disease.
A happy heart runs on beer, well kind of… In moderate beer drinkers (2 alcoholic drinks per day for men and 1 alcoholic drink for women) research has shown a 20-40% decrease in coronary artery disease. These beer drinkers also showed an increase in levels of good cholesterol and a decrease in the bad. Doctors are saying that 1 ½-2 beers daily could lower the risk of heart disease by 25%.
#2) Drinking beer could reduce the likelihood of some cancers.
Xanthohumol is a compound found in beer. Studies of this compound have shown promise in preventing and even treating some cancers. Xanthohumol has also been known to fight off cancer causing enzymes and shut down abnormal cell growth.
#3) Drinking beer helps you sleep.
Beer contains lactoflavin and nicotinic acid. These two components combined act similar to melatonin, helping you rest easy and catch some uninterrupted zzzzzzz’s.
#4) Drinking beer is good for your skin.
Raise a glass to clear skin. Vitamins in beer can help regulate the texture and appearance of your skin. The inactive yeast in beer helps your skin to maintain a balanced pH value resulting in more clear and healthy skin.
#5) Beer has natural, anti-inflammatory and anti-infection properties.
Hops are the female flowers of the hop plant and are full of bitter acids which happen to be powerful inflammation fighters. Hops are also said to help prevent and treat viral respiratory infections.
#6) Drinking beer leads to stronger bones.
Beer contains dietary silicon, Vitamin B, and bioactive polyphenol. These all contribute to building stronger, better bones. Silicon in particular is very good for healthy bone development and even helps to fight osteoporosis. IPA’s have the some of the highest levels of this healthy bone builder.
#7) Drinking beer boosts memory.
Researchers have found that moderate drinking after the age of 60 is said to keep your brain functioning with better memory capacity. According to this research, moderate beer drinkers are also less likely to suffer from Alzheimer’s. Don’t use this as an excuse to over enjoy however, consuming too much alcohol is still linked to memory reduction….
